A seafood Chinese restaurant in Pasir Bogak.
The most recommended dish here is definitely the “Ketam lembut“.
This is fried soft crab (a Shanghai crab that has just molted), and the soft texture and sweet crab meat make it irresistible, as you can eat it with the shell on.
Many of the other dishes also use sweet and sour sauces, so even those who don’t like spicy food will be fine.

For those who don’t like the oily fried foods typical of Chinese cuisine, try lampui (seafood porridge).
This dish has just the right amount of saltiness to soothe your tired body after a long day of playing.
Although it’s not pictured, if you’re with a large group, I also recommend the delicious lobster dishes.

Contrary to its appearance, this is a popular local restaurant.
On weekends and during peak seasons, even if you’re lucky enough to get a table, it may take a long time for your food to arrive, so it’s best to go early on weekends and during peak seasons or make a reservation, including for a main course.
⭐⭐⭐ Very delicious

A local Malay restaurant along the road.
Mee Sup Dagin (beef noodles) here is a refreshing noodle soup with beef and fried fish cakes, and is an addictive dish.

It is served with grated green chili peppers, and adding just a little to the soup will tighten the overall flavor and enhance the umami.
For those who don’t like spicy food, just the tip of a spoon is enough.
If you like spicy food, you can add the whole amount, but do so at your own risk.
*They’ve recently started adding coriander, so if you don’t like it, just say so when you order.
Coriander = ketumbar segar
There are also other menu items centered around stir-fried dishes.
⭐⭐ Reasonable price

The entrance to each restaurant in the building on the coastal street is numbered, and this restaurant is number 7, so that’s how it’s called by the locals.
The seafood displayed in the case in front of the store is priced at tourist prices, just like other restaurants, but the rest of the menu is reasonably priced.

If you don’t like spicy food, you can just say “No spicy" and they’ll accommodate, but if the restaurant is busy, dad in charge of cooking sometimes forgets to say so.
Accept his mistake with a generous heart and try Nasi goreng pataya, where the spiciness is mellowed by the flavor of the egg.
There are also various other menu items.
⭐ A wide variety of food and drinks
MIJUEN (with BBQ)
Opening hours 3:00PM~0:00AM

It is open from around 3:00 PM until late at night.
Set meals and Western dishes are a bit pricey, but other dishes are reasonably priced (e.g. rice + fried beef + fried vegetables + drink for about Rm20).
They used to cater to vegetarians, but I’m not sure if that’s the case now.
*Prices in the menu are for 2024.

A few years ago (late 2023), Teluk Nipah restaurant “MIJUEN" opened a restaurant that mainly serves Thai cuisine on a corner lot on a street lined with many Chinese restaurants.
The menu is probably not much different from MIJUEN in Teluk Nipah, so please refer to that.
As there are many Chinese tourists in this area, this restaurant, which cannot sell alcohol or pork, is likely to struggle in the future.
I don’t like spicy food so I didn’t go in, but if you’re interested, I recommend you give it a try.

⭐⭐⭐ Very popular with female customers

A cafe opened in 2023, located along the main street in the northern part of Sungai Pinang Kecil village.
This cafe is extremely popular with women, as you can enjoy fluffy shaved ice 🍧 which is popular on Google Maps, and stylish and photogenic sweets 🍰.
You can also dine inside the air-conditioned cafe.
The prices are higher than the average prices at nearby stores.

A restaurant only for local Muslims, with few tourists.
In Malaysia, including at shops on Pangkor Island that make roti (a whole wheat crepe-like food eaten with curry), roti is usually only made in the morning or during the day, but this shop is open at night, so it’s recommended for when you get a little hungry late at night.
Also, the taste of the roti can vary greatly from restaurant to restaurant, but this restaurant is spot on.
They also have other menu items so you can use it for dinner as well. You can also take-out.

The stores introduced above are just a small part of the stores I have been to.
There are still many restaurants serving dinner on Pangkor Island, and even though I’ve been going to Pangkor every year for 18 years (and always end up going to the same restaurants), there are still many that I haven’t been to.
If you rent a motorbike or taxi and venture out of your accommodation area, you’ll discover new shops and experience a different island atmosphere than the area where you’re staying.
🍺 For those who want to drink alcohol
Alcohol is forbidden in Islam.
It is forbidden to bring alcoholic beverages into Muslim-run restaurants.
However, if you still want to drink alcoholic beverages🍺 with dinner, we recommend Chinese- or Indian-run restaurants.
In the Teluk Nipah area, you can order beer and a variety of other alcoholic drinks at Nipah Deli or Daddy’s caffe.
There is no need to worry as most of the restaurants in the Pasir Bogak and S.P.K (Sungai Pinang Kecil) areas are Chinese.

When you order a beer, it comes with ice in an icebox.
Drinking beer with ice is common in Southeast Asia.
What about restaurants for local residents?

There are always several local restaurants in each village on Pangkor Island, and the prices are much cheaper than in the beach areas, so popular restaurants are bustling with local residents.
The best thing to do is to ask locals or taxi drivers where the best places are, but be aware that most local restaurants don’t speak much English and don’t have menus.
if you need it, please refer to the “Malay Travel #Cafes & Restaurants“.
