Pekan Pangkor (Also known as: Pangkor Town)
🕌 Gateway to Pangkor Island
As the gateway to Pangkor Island, it is home to major facilities such as bank ATMs, post offices, and hospitals, as well as many restaurants and souvenir shops, and is within walking distance of a convenience store.
However, there is a lot of traffic during the day and it is far from the beach, so there are not many hotels.
There are cheap lodgings in the Chinese town just past the arcade, as well as several hotels on the left side of the road heading towards the west side of the island.
Hotels that come up in searches, such as “Best Stay Hotel" and “Hotel the Island," are also located in this area, so if you’re looking to stay by the sea, be careful not to make the mistake of booking there.

It is safe, but because it is a busy area, the crime rate is higher than in other areas.
*Please be aware that suspicious people tend to gather in arcades (especially near ATMs) and port terminals late at night.

It is about a 10-minute drive from Pangkor Town.
There are also many Chinese restaurants that serve alcohol, and during peak season the area is bustling with Malay-Chinese and Malay-Indian tourists.
There are many resort hotels from the coast to the inland area, and prices are relatively high, including large resort hotels with pools located along the white sandy beach overlooking Pangkor Laut Island.
Guesthouses are also clean, but expensive.

Hotel price range

Please make your reservation via the hotel website or by phone.

⭐⭐ Close to the beach and restaurants area
Coral Bay Resort Pangkor

⭐ Topic No.1
Alun Retreat
💰Accommodation fee: about RM310~
A uniquely designed hotel made from shipping containers on the beach, opening in 2023.
Considering that the famous luxury resort, Pangkor Laut Resort, originally started as a container shipping destination on a small island, this hotel is no joke.
The rooms are clean and the beach is right in front of the hotel, so it would look great on social media, but there are only a few restaurants nearby and it is quite far from the area where there are many restaurants and shops.

Teluk Nipah
🏝️ You can choose the accommodation you want
It is about a 20-minute drive from Pangkor Town.
There are many hotels from along the coastal road to inland.
You can choose accommodation to suit your budget, from guesthouses to resort-style hotels with swimming pools.

Annex located inland
Located on a vast inland site, the resort has an annex (large chalet-type or detached house-type) equipped with a swimming pool🏊 and BBQ space, and each room has a spacious kitchen.
Although it is far from the sea (about a 10-minute walk), it is popular with families and large groups.

⭐⭐⭐ Great value with buffet breakfast included
Nipah bay villa
💰Accommodation fee: about RM64~
The facilities are generally a little old, but the staff are friendly and helpful, regardless of whether you’re a backpacker or a semi-executive, making this a popular place for long-term Western guests.
There is an outdoor washing area with a shower, which is convenient for washing off the sand before entering the room.
There is a small swimming pool🏊 that was just completed in 2022.
It’s about a 1-minute walk to the beach.

⭐⭐⭐ A resort hotel close to the sea

MNY Hotel & Resort
⭐ Backpacker favorite
Nazri Nipah Camp
💰Accommodation fee: about RM49.5~
A guesthouse that attracts backpackers from all over the world.
There is a cozy courtyard.
About 2-minute walk from the beach.
A few years ago, this guesthouse became of the OYO Group, which has made great strides in hotel reservations and management.
This is a place that has been loved by backpackers for many years, so it’s one that I’m curious to see how it will change in the future.
*Please make your reservation via the OYO app or Booking.com.

⭐⭐⭐ New hotel that just opened in 2022
PANGKOR NATURE VIEW HOUSE
💰Accommodation fee: about RM171~
A relatively new resort hotel.
Because it is located inland, it takes more than five minutes to walk to the beach where you can eat and drink, but it is a quiet and comfortable location where you can relax by the pool and courtyard on the spacious grounds.

Popular hotels for families and groups in Teluk Nipah

💰 about RM180~
Close to the beach and security on duty.
The rooms are clean and popular with families.
💰 about RM169~
This is a relatively new inn in the area.
The pool and rooms are perfect for posting on social media, making them popular with young groups.
💰 about RM175~
The rooftop pool and clean rooms make this a popular choice for young groups.
It is about 3-minute walk from the beach and dining area.
In addition to the hotels I have introduced, there are many other hotels in Teluk Nipah.
The disadvantages are….
During the off-season (weekdays)
There are only a limited number of restaurants open both during the day and at night, so it’s best to rent a motorbike or bicycle for easy transportation.

For those who want to find something within walking distance, we have listed restaurants that are open even during the off-season in the “Cuisine & Recommended Restaurants" section, so please refer to it when you’re in a pinch.
During the peak season
At hotels with rooms facing the coastal road, you can hear the sound of the waves, but sometimes the noise from motorbikes 🏍 and cars 🚙 can be a nuisance.

In particular, rooms near hotels with karaoke in their restaurants can be very noisy at peak nights (most hotels offer karaoke until around 11pm), so earplugs are essential for bedtime.
Very rarely
Water supply will be cut off in the entire western part of Pangkor Island, the entire Teluk Nipah area, or only inland areas.

Most hotels use tanks that normally store water to make it through until water supply is restored, but sometimes it takes just a few hours and sometimes it can take half a day.

Sungai Pinang Kecil (Abbreviation : SPK)

🐟 Vibrant fishing village with many Malay-Chinese.
It is about 5-minute drive from Pangkor Town.
This area is primarily a residential area for Malay Chinese, where Mandarin is more commonly heard than Malay in restaurants and shops.
There are a few guesthouses, some of which also offer bicycle rentals.
Since it is originally an old fishing village & residential area, the sea is dirtier than on the west side of the island, so don’t expect too much.
Hotel price range
Low to mid priced
Public order
Safe day and night
*Please be careful of stray dogs🐕 and wild boars🐗.

As it is a residential area for Malay Chinese, you can keep accommodation and food costs low.
However, it is quite a distance to the west side of the island where you can see the beautiful ocean, so this is not recommended for anyone other than those interested in Malay-Chinese life or backpackers on a tight budget.
📝Backpacker’s favorite lodging
In addition to “Pangkor Guest House S.P.K" , which has long been popular with backpackers, there has recently been an increase in private lodging-style accommodations.
If you go further north from SPK settlement, you will find a floating guesthouse built on a pier.

Teluk Dalam

🌴Time flows more slowly
Approximately 2km north from Teluk Nipah.
This area was once home to large resort hotels, but now there are only a few regular accommodations.
The airport here and the regular flights from KL have been discontinued※note1, so it is always quiet and time seems to pass even more slowly.
If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the beaches during peak season, this is the place to go.。
※note1 : Conditional flights available between PKG and SZB (Subang Airport)
However, as it is a quiet village inhabited by Muslim Malays, it is not suitable for snorkeling.
I recommend taking a leisurely stroll to find hidden beaches that are less visited by tourists, or enjoying a meal at a local restaurant while looking out over the shallow sea and the opposite shore (Lumut).
Recommended local restaurants here.

⭐ Villas over the sea
Casuarina Pangkor
💰Accommodation fee: about RM207~
Even I who knows Pangkor Island well, was surprised “When did this open?", Judging from the images of the guest rooms and facilities, it appears to be a relatively new hotel.
Recommended for those who want to relax in a water cottage and experience a little “Pangkor Laut Resort" feel.

Pangkor Bus Resort by BESLA
Teluk Gedung

🕌 In village rich in nature
It is about 2 km south of Pangkor Town along the east coast.
Located in Teluk Gedung village, where the Dutch Fort and legendary rock.。
Many Malay Muslims live at the foot of a small mountain designated as the South Pangkor Nature Reserve, and further south there is a floating mosque.
Since it is on the east side of the island, the sea is not as clean, but it has a different atmosphere from Sungai Pinang Kecil in the northeast, where many Malay-Chinese people live.

💮Recommended hotels
⭐ Experience yoga and batik in the jungle
Tiger Rock
💰Accommodation fee: about RM1250 / 2 nights or more
All-inclusive hotel in the jungle.
The prices are high, but the quality of the food and service is highly rated on review sites.
I’m not sure whether Westerners would perceive an oriental atmosphere in the exterior of this hotel, which was renovated from an old Malaysian wooden house,
It seems to be popular with conscious tourists who say things like “I don’t need marine leisure activities", “I want to try yoga or batik" or “I just want to relax".
Please make your reservation directly through the hotel website.
You can see guest reviews on Tripadvisor.

Tips for choosing a hotel
Choose an area that suits your purpose of stay

If you want to enjoy marine sports or snorkeling, but choose to stay at a hotel on the east side of the island where the sea is not as beautiful because it is cheaper, you will end up spending a lot of time traveling and wasting your precious time.
On the other hand, if you want to see the vibrant life of Malaysian Chinese people, you will be bored on the west side of the island.
As a side note, if you compare Pasir Bogak and Teluk Nipah which same located in the west side, Pasir Bogak is visited by many Chinese and Indian tourists from both within and outside Malaysia during peak season, while Teluk Nipah is visited by many Moslim Malay and Western tourists.
So, the languages heard in each area are different during peak season.
When you have trouble with hotel Wi-Fi

Internet speeds vary depending on the hotel, but overall Pangkor Island is slightly slower than urban areas on the mainland.
Depending on the hotel, there may be rare cases where you encounter problems such as “the hotel’s Wi-Fi does not reach your room" or “Wi-Fi is available but you cannot connect to the Internet" so if this happens, please consult the staff.
If you want to be free from such hassles, please refer to “eSIM for overseas travel“.
🏠 What is the reputation of private lodgings?

On Pangkor Island too, it is also becoming popular for families and groups to use private homes and apartments as accommodation.
However, most of these accommodations are far from the beach and inconvenient for shopping on foot too, so I recommend that you check the accommodation area carefully on a map before making a reservation.
As of September 1, 2017, a tourism tax has been introduced for travelers (excluding Malaysian nationals) staying at accommodation facilities in Malaysia.
Please note that an additional fee of MYR 10 per room per night may be payable directly to the local hotel upon check-in or check-out, in addition to the hotel accommodation fee.
*Tax amounts are subject to change without notice.
Before booking a hotel
To get to Pangkor Island from outside Malaysia, most people fly into KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport).
🇲🇾 Before booking a hotel, please check your travel itinerary from the day you arrive in Malaysia until the day before your flight back home. Then, make your hotel reservation.
Ex. 1. Most common travel itineraries
1st night K.L ▶ 2nd night ~ Pangkor Island ▶ Final night K.L
🇲🇾The most common itinerary involves staying overnight in Kuala Lumpur on the day of arrival in Malaysia and the night before your flight back home.
Since you have plenty of time, you can enjoy the nightlife in KL or look for Malaysian souvenirs.
However, if you are used to the good security situation in Pangkor island, you may let your guard down when you return to Kuala Lumpur, so be careful not to become a victim of crime in Kuala Lumpur.
Ex.2. If you want to enjoy Pangkor Island until the day of your return flight
1st night K.L ▶ 2nd night ~ Pangkor Island ▶ Direct to the airport on the day of departure
In this case, please count backwards from the check-in deadline for your return flight at the airport.
